INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL THEATRE

by Kill The Cat Theatre

In this 'How to’, Kill The Cat challenge you to view ‘digital theatre’ as an equally exciting medium to traditional 'in-person theatre' and explain how to use interactivity to overcome limitations in the digital form, keep your audience engaged, and offer a rich experience that is still recognisably ‘theatre' even when experienced online.

Kill The Cat are an award winning interactive theatre company run by co-artistic directors Dylan Frankland & Madeleine Allardice. Produced by Turtle Key Arts.

'[One of] a few companies who make a strong case for theatre in its digital form' (New York Times) they’ve spent the last year exploring interactivity in the digital sphere, creating the award winning THE HOUSE NEVER WINS. Undergoing 4 digital tours in partnership with 15 theatres, reaching nearly 1000 people across the UK, USA, Australia, The Philippines, Malaysia, Brazil, Spain & The Netherlands. Commissioned by Upstart Theatre, supported by Arts Council England.

They also run workshops on digital, interactive and sustainable theatre and are currently making their first Twine piece; ESCAPE TO MARS! as well as curating THE FUTURE PROJECT- a series of free artist resources and interviews with those at the frontier of theatre’s new digital realm (launching 3rd August).

Kill The Cat are members of the South West Creative Technology Network and were shortlisted for the BBC’s New Creatives Interactive Strand (2020).
